Celebration Giveaway!

We have a lot to celebrate around here. This is our 500th post on this blog. Today is firebirdluver's birthday. Our blog's birthday is also this month. Which also means it was two years ago that we moved here to Nevada (which a record time in one place for our family). And look, gold got back up to $1000 an ounce yesterday. Yay.

Of those 5000 posts, only a few have been by firebirdluver. However, one of our most popular posts in two years was his telling of Little Fish's birth story. I got so many comments both online and off from people about his writing. (I also got a lot of comments about his writing in the Christmas letter we sent out in July.) I heard many variations of, "I didn't know your husband could spin such a fabulous yarn."

I did. When I first met him several years ago, he was writing a series of stories. The characters were based on his nieces and nephews, and he mostly was writing the stories to entertain them. Most of the stories took place in the Wild West and starred Devin the Kid, his brother Blue Eyes and their cousin Catamount Cody. Everyone that read them said he should try and have them published.

The internet has made self-publishing much easier. Look what recently arrived in our mailbox:

Catamount Cody Faces the Slingshot Gang is now available for purchase at Lulu.com. This book features all three heroes and takes place here in Nevada. It is written in the same witty, fun style as the birth story and is illustrated by yours truly. It's a short chapter book that I think fits in that gap between picture books and chapter books. (In other words, perfect for read-alouds with Beeper right now. We can get through it with him in two or three readings.)

What better way to celebrate than to give some copies away? Two of our readers will win signed copies of Catamount Cody. To enter, comment below (make sure I have some way to contact you, of course) before September 20 (our blog's anniversary). You can earn one extra entry by either blogging or tweeting about the giveaway and posting a link in the comments.

(Incidentally, this week's Spin Cycle is about talents. Go check it out.)

**UPDATE** Andrea Frazer, screenwriter and professional blogger, has reviewed Catamount Cody. Head over to Life Happins to see what she thought.

Wow! Who knew you'd be married to a famous geologist for stories? Of course marrying an artist I'm sure was a bonus.... ; )

Who knew I'd be related to a few famous people? Way to go Shane and Arwen! Happy B-day Shane!

I'll see if I can get my nerves to settle enough to post something worthwhile..... I'll at least Facebook it for you. We love books, wouldn't mind a copy.

This is so awesome. And yes, he did a fabulous job on the birth story. I was in stitches.

Wow, a published book! I am so envious.

I totally want a copy, especially since I think my son would get a kick out of the story being set in his own home state (once he's old enough to appreciate such things).

Kudos to Shane, and happy belated birthday!
