I think this was my second ever pieced quilt. I did the top while we were still in Redding, so it was over two years ago. I didn't get around to quilting it until last year. A friend of mine here helped me hand quilt it. For about a month, Beeper and I went over to their house once or twice a week. He and her little boy would run around and play while we quilted. It was so much fun. It made me wish the quilting bee would come back into style. We finished quilting it just in time for it to be part of firebirdluver's birthday surprise.
I don't remember the exact size of the quilt, just that it's huge. I think each block is about 18". My favorite thing about it (which unfortunately you can't see very well in this picture) is that some of the big squares are printer fabric and have photos that I took at the Henry Doorly Zoo in Omaha (you know I love mixing my media).

Love the look of it! Good luck, Arwen!
Interesting idea. I cannot print to fabric yet. It's on my list of things to learn.
Very cool!
Reminds me of a quilt I had in my living room when we quilted a quilt for my DMIL and DFIL for their 50th anniversary. I wanted to do it myself--but finally had to call in help. It is so fun to sit around the quilt frame and visit. We really do miss that part of a bonding experience that many women used to enjoy.
That is cool, the pics look great.
What a fun quilt!
Slowly making my way through the quilt festival entries. Yours is a very cool quilt. I love that some of the blocks you printed from photos. Thanks for sharing.
I love how you fussy cut the lion so that we get different views of him. A great quilt!
Your fabrics are perfect for your Zoo photo transfers. Neat-o quilt!!! Your quilting bee sounded like FUN! Thanks for sharing. : )
