Prince Beeper
Beeper the Bat
Super FishAnd that was just the first day.
I think a cape is an essential piece of childhood equipment. I still have the one my mom made me when I was little. I embellished it a few years ago, and it has made an appearance in more than one of Beeper's super hero outfits (like this one).
The reversible hooded play cape in Growing Up Sew Liberated (quickly becoming a favorite) is irresistible. With costume fabrics on sale right now, I couldn't help myself.

I made three capes to give them plenty of color choices: gray and green, brown and red, black and blue. The black, gray and brown are panne. The red and blue are costume satin (not the most practical choice, but it sure looks good). The green is from some curtains one of firebirdluver's sisters put in the yard sale pile (thank you, it makes excellent dragon wings).
They are super simple. They only took about an hour apiece to sew up (cutting and pinning included), even with such difficult fabrics. If you wanted super-duper easy, you could make a one-sided one out of panne and leave the edges raw. That would probably only take about 15 minutes from start to finish.
The clasps are especially brilliant:
They consist only of a hair elastic and a button sewn on the very egde. It's perfectly reversible, easy to operate and usually stays.

I think you've just inspired my costume for an upcoming party. I will be Super Jen!
Oh, how I wish I could sew! Sigh. No time now to learn.
Awesome! That's so fun!!!
